Is the pressure to write in a way that’s accessible to everybody a symptom of the hegemony of the free-market ideology? Do we under-value writing in a particular style, and/or on a particular topic, and/or for a particular audience, because this doesn’t maximise the potential readership, and therefore (at least in theory) the potential profitability?

Is there this pressure? Or am I just imagining it / putting it on myself?
